Some of our great Provo High PUPS competed in a MATHCOUNTS regional competition on Saturday, February 7, 2015. MATHCOUNTS is a nationwide mathematics competition for sixth through eighth grade students. The competition is run in a “bee-style”; students are asked verbal math and logic questions and required to quickly solve them.
Provo’s PUPS team competed extraordinarily well; they took first place in the team event, earning them a spot in the state competition, to be held on March 7, 2015. The regional team was comprised of students Alden Chu,
Teresa Gao, Mary Jenkins, Marie Li. Also attending the competition were four alternates: Arda Caliskan, Grant Daniels, Sam Farrell, and Riley Jensen. Six of these students also placed in the top ten in the individual competition; with Teresa earning first, Mary scoring second, Marie claiming third, Grant taking fifth, Sam snatching sixth, and Riley capturing tenth.
Soon after the regional competition, the PUPS team was invited to participate in the state competition last Saturday, March 7. Once again, the PUPS excelled, ranking fourth out of over 30 teams. Congratulations to these amazing competitors.
